ENG100 03/28/17 On the film-base project , I mainly work on this project by myself. If i had someone to work with I would've try to attend hearing their idea because two minds are better than one. All thought working by myself was a good approach because on my work got done on time and it's full with good key points. The most difficult part writing this project was finding good eye opener info because there are so much fake info online. I use the knowledge i learn in my other class how to make sure the info was good or fakes. I started writing down my idea when we all starting in class on lab day. That class day help me out a lot because we started on the first sentence and thesis sentence together. I went home and run with it meaning went home and continue working on the project. I believe I upload the project to Weebly In record time. I starting this project in school and i finish up at the house. I feel like this was a good approach because I got done like 3 or 4 days before the due date. I choose the topic should America let immigrant in because it's was a topic thats going all right now. So I know it's would be easy to good eye opener info on the topic. I didn’t do nothing different from my six steps and wouldn’t change nothing.

ENG100 Assignment #3 Flim-Based Argument Due: Draft #1 3/23 Why Not In the film, Survivor, screenwriter Philip Shelby writes about Kate Abbott , an American security expert newly transferred to U.S embassy in London. Abbott do a series of background check , if she think you may cost harm to the U.S. In particular, Abbott’s suspicion is awake by a Romanian scientist specializing in gases who claims to be going to United States for a medical conference. Abbott’s superior make sure the Romanian scientist got in the United States so he can start his master plan of a terrorist attack in Times Square with the Watchmaker. Abbott on a man hunt with the Watchmaker and the London Embassy. She finally find out the plot against America , so she went to Time Square and save Millions of innocent people. After watching this movie , I ask myself should America allow immigrants into the country? Yes, America should allow immigrants into the country because America was built on immigrants and the Declaration of Independence states that everyone is created equal with unalienable rights. The second paragraph of the United States Declaration of Independence said “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. That to secure these rights.” Since God granted such rights the government could not take them away. In America, this fundamental truth is recognized and enshrined in the Declaration of Independence. People who come to live in a new country are called immigrants. Over the past 400 years, immigrants have had different reasons to come to America. Some immigrants came to America to escape wars. Other for the freedom to practice their religion without consequences. Still other came for the chance to own land or simply for a chance to work and escape for being poor. During 1607-1830 was the first wave of immigrants , approximately 1.2 million people came to America. The early immigrants were northwestern Europe, as can be seen from the ethnic of 1790: English 49% , African 19%, Scots-Irish 8%, Scottish 7%, German 7%, Dutch 4%, other 3%. Except for the enslaved Africans, the first wave of immigrants generally had an easier time being accepted as American. Immigration gives the United States an economic edge in the world economy. Immigrants bring ideas and entrepreneurial spirit to the U.S. economy. They keep our economy flexible, allowing U.S producers to keep prices down and to respond to changing consumer demands. “An authoritative 1997 study by the National Academy of Science(NAS) concluded that immigration delivered a “significant positive gain” to the U.S economy.” said Daniel Griswold in “Immigrants Have Enriched American Culture and Enhanced Our Influence in the World.” In 2013, immigrants added $1.6 trillion to total U.S. gross product. Immigrant entrepreneurs have also played a significant role in advancing technological and creating businesses. “Some of the most influential entrepreneurs in the United States are immigrants or children of immigrants” said Cesar Maximiliano Estrada in “How Immigrants Positively Affect the Business Community and the U.S Economy” We also wouldn’t have all these good foods in our country if someone didn't’ originally bring them here. I don’t know about you, but I love my Mexican food and my pizza. Apple pie is a nice treat, but I wouldn’t want to be eating every single day. The culture they bring with them also helps our economy, because if a new type of food arrives in the USA. Immigrants have played an important role in building the United States, and they still continue to carry that mission today. Its is up to us and the Congress to reform the immigration system. Than the movie jump to London, few months later, when the U.S embassy is on orders to be more harder on giving visas.The embassy’s new security officer , Kate Abbott (Milla Jovovich), is on the lookout for chemical and gas specialists. She find a fast red flag on this guy name Emil Balan (Roger Rees), a doctor who want to visit the U.s for a conference. Kate have a flashes back to a plane crashing into the twin towers on 9/11. She keeps a postcard from friends who died that day.Kate was at a restaurant where she was eating with her work friends is bombed. Kate works to clear up her name in this mess. Her main ally is her boss Sam Parker, who came to her defense ,while a british inspector follows close on her trail and U.S ambassador thought that kate might as well be dispatched.”if you get in your sight , do not hesitate.” Kate has a long fight trying to clear up her name in all this mug. Director and writing by Spike Lee , he was nominated for two Oscars. This movie had a large list of stars in it but I’m going to name a few of my favorite starting with Denzel Washington. He has three Golden Globe awards , a Tony Award , and two Academy Awards. Next on my list is Rosario Dawson , this gorgeous actress won nine different award. I love this girl in all her movies she play in. Last by least Ray Allen , he got a actor but he did a great job on this movie. You can really see he put is all in it. Spike Lee bring the spirit of a poet to his films about everyday reality. Tell the story of Jesus Shuttlesworth , the most sought after high school basketball prospect in the nation. Jesus and his dream to make it to the big ranks in professional basketball facing two major problem. One his jesus don’t want to left his pregnant girlfriend to go to college and she don’t want him to left. Jake Shuttlesworth his father , is in prison serving time for killing his his wife in a violent family feud.He is released on parole , but with one condition. He must persuade his son to sign with the governor’s alma mater university, Big State and Jake only has a week to do it. “He Got Game” have two major plot is this movie. If we write about either or its will be a good learning and writing experience for the class.

Eng100 03/28/17 Mindsets I have recently read “Teachers, Parents Often Misuse Growth Mindset Research , Carol Dweck Says” by Carol Dweck and in this article , she talk about the plus side of teaching students or your kids at home to have a growth mindset vs fixed mindset. You probably asking yourself what is a mindset. Mindset is a simple idea discovered by world renowned Stand University psychologist Carol Dweck in decades of research on achievement and success idea that make all the difference On the other hand , I read “The Perils of Growth Mindset Education” by Alfie Kohn , he/she talk about how teaching Dweck way will handicap our kids and student.” A 2010 study found that when students whose self-worth hinges on their performance face the prospect of failure, it doesn’t help for them to adopt a growth mindset. In fact, those who did so were even more likely to give themselves an excuse for screwing up — a strategy known as “self-handicapping” — as compared to those with the dreaded fixed mindset.” said Alfie Kohn. “In a fixed mindset, people believe their bacic qualities, like their intelligence are simply fixed traits. They spend their time documenting their intelligence instead of developing them. In a growth mindset, people believe that their most basic abilities can be developed through dedication and hard work brains and talent are just the starting point.” Dweck said. After learning whats a growth and fixed mindset, I wonder what was my mindset in my early years of learn and do I have the same mindset. How did my mindset impact my abilities of learn as a student. Far back I can remember I had a growth mindset. I don't think someone had to teach my why or how to had a growth mindset like Dweck trying to do. As a young boy I just know if I had hard and take my time I will the right answer. When i did not get the right answer nobody didn't praise for trying hard. My teacher will ask me how did I get this answer and she will let me find what i was doing right to get it. I will try a simple problem like the one I got right until I know what i'm doing. You can say I was will to learn as a young boy. Everything was still new and fresh to me. If I had someone giving me a star will I’m get the problem wrong. I believe my learning process will be different. I will be so depend on someone cheers me all the way. I see where Kohn coming from with the handicap. The real world not going to do that. As a college student a carry the same growth mindset. A growth mindset is necessary because they're going to be so many new things that you going to have to learn. Maybe very difficult to process in your mind what they fixed mind set. My first day in English class we had to vote for what website we going to use for the assignment. Starting my first with a fixed mindset scared of use something new I voted for none. Glading I must be in a class full with growth mindset more than half voted for weebly. When I got home using a growth mindset I made a weebly and play around with it , trying to get the hang out the website. I end up really like weebly. It's better than handing in paper the old way. Without a growth mindset I will never get through a class learn something in chemistry. I believe everybody should have a growth mindset. What's the benefits of having a growth mindset, you may ask. I enjoy doing the work, even when I’m not good at it. “This is wonderful feature of the growth mindset. You don’t have to think you’re already great at something to want to do it and to enjoy doing it” Dweck said. I improve myself insight and self esteem. A lot of studies I know drop out of school because of terrible at estimating their abilities. You know how something you feel stupid when learning something new. People with fixed mindset feel not smart when they make mistake. When I feel stupid , is when I work on something for a long time and I start to figure it out and i was over thinking it. As you can see why I growth mindset is the mindset everybody should have in life. I think we need to way a better way to teach the way of a growth mindset. I don’t want to handicap our future worker. Eng100 03/28/17 After I read chapter five (pg. 28 - 38) of Teaching Adolescents to Become Learners [...] (Chicago University), I had a better understand of what is an academic mindset. Chapter five mainly focus on the four academic mindset (belonging, growth mindset , self- efficacy and relevance/purpose.) I honestly can said I do use all of these mindsets since I been a college student. The most important mindset that I believe help achieve academic success at Delaware County Community College is belonging. Out of all my friends I’m the only one in school. Some days I get the feel like this not for me. When I start feel like that I can see how much effort I put in my school work. If I’m feeling like I don’t belong here why will I get up in the morning to go to school. That will effort my attendance. When I remind “I belong in this academic community” I has a strong impact on my performance. Feeling part of a school makes me more likely to engage in the activities. For example two weeks ago the school had all the club sign up sheet out in the open. I saw the club in my particular field engineer but I walk right past the sign up paper knowing I should sign up. The reason because I had that “I don’t belong here” mindset. I got roughly ten steps away for the paper and the mindset that help me turn around and sign up for that club was “I belong here” mindset kick it. Eng100 03/28/17 After I read the definition of hiraeth. I had a better understanding of the project. My cousin and I started to dwell on the past. Many ideas being to pop in my head , that i didn't have before the conversation. Most difficult part of my writing process was the begin. I always a trouble putting the first apart together. I think I over think the first process. I remember in class my teacher said just start writing down your thought. Once i had that mindset , my juice was pouring out. The another process I find pretty difficult was really getting touch with my feelings. Doing this projects was kind of hard for me. I overcame holding back my feelings but looking at old pics of my family and expressing my feelings on the paper. I started taking this project soon we talking about it. I was excited to get to work. In class I kind of had I good idea what we had to do for this project. I wanted to express my family I been holding in for the longest time. Saw a good opportunity to do so. I was in my bedroom with all my family picture on the wall. I think the pics motivation me more. I don’t think I will chance my writing process because I got some good work out of it. Give tips how to deal with a student with a fixed mindset. What's the good you get out have a growth mindset. Differences between a growth mindset and a fixed mindset having the ability of learning something new and difficult. A growth mindset student will ask the question to solve the problem. They understand this problem is hard but I can do it. A growth mindset is a program of having an open mind. Not afraid of looking dumb. People in a growth mindset believe anyone can be good at anything, because your abilities are entirely due to your actions. A fixed mindset is poison to learning. Have a trouble to accept something new or not willing to learn new things. Like a old dog can’t learn new trick. The mindset set up believe they not good enough to get the job done. As a college student I think I have a growth mindset. I won’t been in college with a fixed mindset because its would be very hard for to pass these classes. My first Semester at Delaware Community College , I took a class on growth and fixed mindset. Doing this course I learn the trick to keep a growth mindset. I like learning new things.
