Eng100 03/28/17 After I read chapter five (pg. 28 - 38) of Teaching Adolescents to Become Learners [...] (Chicago University), I had a better understand of what is an academic mindset. Chapter five mainly focus on the four academic mindset (belonging, growth mindset , self- efficacy and relevance/purpose.) I honestly can said I do use all of these mindsets since I been a college student. The most important mindset that I believe help achieve academic success at Delaware County Community College is belonging. Out of all my friends I’m the only one in school. Some days I get the feel like this not for me. When I start feel like that I can see how much effort I put in my school work. If I’m feeling like I don’t belong here why will I get up in the morning to go to school. That will effort my attendance. When I remind “I belong in this academic community” I has a strong impact on my performance. Feeling part of a school makes me more likely to engage in the activities. For example two weeks ago the school had all the club sign up sheet out in the open. I saw the club in my particular field engineer but I walk right past the sign up paper knowing I should sign up. The reason because I had that “I don’t belong here” mindset. I got roughly ten steps away for the paper and the mindset that help me turn around and sign up for that club was “I belong here” mindset kick it. I’m not say the rest not important or I don’t use them. I know what get me out of bed each morning for English at 8 am. I belong in this academic community.
